A PR walkthrough needs evidence between the steps

Description and use

The updated PR Tour now offers explicit evidence for step transitions, enhancing clarity and trust. UI and storage improvements improve cross‑device usability.

Problem

PR Tour guides lacked explicit evidence linking steps, making it hard to trace logic flow and verify source references.

Outcome

The updated PR Tour now provides explicit, verifiable evidence for each step transition, improving clarity and trustworthiness. Layout and storage fixes enhance user experience across devices.

Workflow

  • 1. Author a guide step with "next" text. 2. Add an optional "transition" object specifying destination step, basis (e.g., "source"), and evidence ranges. 3. Builder reads evidence ranges from Git, supporting left (merge base) or right (pinned head) sides. 4. In HTML, "View connection evidence" expands excerpts with syntax highlighting and links. 5. Update layout: draggable dividers, mobile tabs, and persistent widths. 6. Fix comment storage race by using IndexedDB transactions and Web Locks. 7. Rebuild guide to regenerate HTML with new annotations.

Evidence

"transition" adds the destination and the basis of that explanation

Source

The builder reads the cited ranges from Git. "right" means the pinned head; "left" means the merge base.

Source

The WebKit checks also caught a race when two tabs saved comments at once: serializing localStorage writes with Web Locks did not always make the next tab’s read current.
