Agent Loop Rollbacks: Choosing Open-Source Dashboards for Latency and Cost Signals

Description and use

Adopting a telemetry contract and selecting an appropriate open‑source dashboard reduces false positives, improves rollback accuracy, and keeps capacity planning aligned with real‑time metrics.

Problem

When an e‑commerce AI agent loop receives latency and cost signals from multiple sources, operators need a dashboard that can display per‑call metrics, release identifiers, and request correlation to decide whether to roll back a prompt, model, or tool policy.

Outcome

Adopting a telemetry contract and selecting an appropriate open‑source dashboard reduces false positives, improves rollback accuracy, and keeps capacity planning aligned with real‑time metrics.

Workflow

  • 1. Emit per‑loop telemetry: latency, cost, vendor/model, cache status, request ID, release/flag version.
  • 2. Store metrics in a time‑series store (InfluxDB, Elasticsearch, etc.).
  • 3. Configure a dashboard that shows end‑to‑end latency and per‑call cost as separate signals.
  • 4. Add dimensions for model, vendor, release, and feature flag to compare old vs. new behavior.
  • 5. Use a request ID for deep inspection and a trace ID for cross‑service correlation.
  • 6. Set SLO thresholds (latency, cost) and a rollback action in the monitoring system.
  • 7. When a threshold is breached, the dashboard triggers a rollback via the release system.
  • 8. Verify rollback by comparing metrics before and after the change using the same release identity.

Evidence

Use Grafana as the default dashboard for an e‑commerce AI agent loop when the loop's latency and cost signals come from more than one source.

Source

The useful design is an explicit telemetry contract: one record per loop execution, with latency, cost, model or vendor, cache status, request identity, and release or flag version.

Source

Keep end‑to‑end latency and per‑call cost as separate signals, then attach a model, vendor, release, or feature‑flag dimension that lets the operator compare the old and new behavior.
