How I Built a 100% In-Browser Instagram Chat Analyzer (Zero Cloud Uploads)

Description and use

Stats Insta is a fully client‑side Instagram chat analyzer that processes JSON exports in the browser without uploading data, producing conversational metrics and shareable story cards.

Problem

Existing Instagram chat analytics tools require users to log in or upload sensitive ZIP archives to cloud servers, compromising privacy.

Outcome

Stats Insta delivers privacy‑preserving Instagram chat analytics, including deep conversational metrics and shareable story cards, all processed client‑side.

Workflow

• Drop message_1.json into the browser
• FileReader.readAsText() loads file into RAM
• Unicode escape sequences are decoded with decodeUnicode()
• Metrics (night owl counts, conversation starters, swear jar) are calculated in memory
• A 1080x1920 canvas renders an Instagram Story card
• Web Share API shares the PNG directly to Instagram Stories

Evidence

The application does not have a backend parsing server or database for chat messages.
