How I Built a Kiro Crew App in 5 Minutes - Full Tutorial With Code
Description and use
Built a Kiro Crew app in five minutes that automatically generates standup notes from Git commits and displays them in a dashboard.
Problem
Developing a lightweight, fully functional AI-powered app that automates daily standup generation from git commits without complex setup.
Outcome
The standup‑bot app was built in five files and five minutes, installed with a single curl command, and runs automatically every weekday at 9 AM, generating concise standup notes from recent git commits and displaying them in a custom dashboard page.
Workflow
- Create app directory structure with app.json, agent, skill, UI, and cron definitions
- Write app.json manifest declaring agents, skills, UI entry, and cron job
- Define standup-agent.json with model, prompt, and @kirocrew-core tool
- Create standup-format skill markdown with formatting rules
- Implement UI page in ui/src/App.tsx using @kirocrew/app-sdk
- Build UI bundle with Vite and output dist/index.mjs
- Install app via curl POST to /api/apps/install with source path
- Enable app via curl POST to /api/apps/standup-bot/enable
- Verify agents, skills, and cron are registered
- Use chat to trigger standup-agent manually or wait for scheduled cron
- View generated standup history in dashboard sidebar
- Publish app to App Store by adding entry to app-registry.json and merging PR
Evidence
Five files. Five minutes. A real app you'd actually use.
