How I Built a Kiro Crew App in 5 Minutes - Full Tutorial With Code
Description and use
Demonstrates rapid creation of a Kiro Crew app that auto‑generates daily standup notes from git commits, schedules them via cron, displays history in a dashboard, and can be installed with a single curl command, then published to the App Store.
Problem
Developers need a quick way to create, deploy, and publish fully functional Kiro Crew apps that include agents, skills, cron jobs, and UI pages without complex tooling.
Outcome
The tutorial shows that a complete Kiro Crew app can be built in five minutes, installed with one curl command, and published to the App Store, enabling rapid deployment of custom AI workflows.
Workflow
- Create app directory structure with app.json, agent, skill, UI, and cron definitions
- Write app.json manifest declaring agents, skills, UI pages, and cron jobs
- Define standup-agent.json with model, prompt, and @kirocrew-core tool
- Create standup-format skill as a markdown file with formatting rules
- Implement dashboard page in ui/src/App.tsx using @kirocrew/app-sdk
- Build UI with Vite to produce dist/index.mjs
- Install the app via curl POST to /api/apps/install with source path
- Enable the app via curl POST to /api/apps/standup-bot/enable
- Verify agents, skills, and cron are registered and dashboard appears in sidebar
- Publish app to App Store by adding entry to app-registry.json and merging PR
Evidence
5-min demo: custom agent + skill + cron job + dashboard page, installed live with one curl command
A Daily Standup Bot. It reads my git commits every morning and generates standup notes so I never have to write "worked on X" again.
