I Built TidyByte to Make Document Organization Less Tedious
Description and use
TidyByte automates document organization with rule‑based filename and category suggestions, enabling users to review and export organized files into a ZIP archive.
Problem
Users often download documents with confusing filenames and forget to organize them, leading to cluttered storage.
Outcome
TidyByte automates document housekeeping by providing deterministic, rule‑based filename and category suggestions, allowing users to review and export organized files without external AI dependencies.
Workflow
- Upload TXT or PDF files in batches
- TidyByte generates filename, category, and description suggestions
- User reviews, edits, or approves each suggestion
- Approved files are organized into category folders
- Export the organized files as a ZIP archive
- Download or re‑download the ZIP as needed
Evidence
TidyByte is a privacy-conscious document organizer that lets users upload TXT and PDF files, review suggested filenames and categories, edit suggestions, approve the results, and export everything into a neatly structured ZIP archive.
I tested the deployed workflow with text files and PDFs, including a PDF larger than 30 MB. I also verified that the generated ZIP archive contained valid files and the expected folder structure.
The current version uses deterministic, rule-based suggestions, including filename heuristics. It does not yet run an open-weight language model.
