I made my coding agent explain its own pull requests
Описание и применение
DiffNotes автоматически добавляет к каждому изменению в pull request краткое объяснение, уменьшая нагрузку на ревьюера и сохраняя обсуждение чистым от автоматических комментариев.
Задача
Reviewers cannot understand why an AI agent made changes in a pull request because the agent’s reasoning is lost once the diff is opened.
Результат
DiffNotes reduces reviewer effort by providing concise explanations for AI‑generated code changes, keeps PR discussions free of automated noise, and stores notes privately on a server.
Рабочий процесс
- 1. Deploy a DiffNotes server (free hosted or Docker).
- 2. Install the DiffNotes Agent Skill on developer machines via a curl command or MCP transport.
- 3. Install the Chrome extension for reviewers and sign in.
- 4. When a PR is ready, ask the agent to "annotate this PR with diffnotes".
- 5. The agent uploads a summary, deploy card, risk list, and one note per changed block to the server.
- 6. Reviewers view notes inline in the Files changed view, with a dock for navigation and media gallery.
Доказательства
More and more of the pull requests I review were written by a coding agent. The code is usually fine. Reviewing it is not: I open Files changed, see 400 lines across 12 files, and start reverse‑engineering the reasons behind each block.
I built DiffNotes.
A note is a short, plain‑language "why" attached to a changed block.
Setup in about 5 minutes: 1. A server. 2. The skill. 3. The extension.
When the PR is ready: annotate this PR with diffnotes.
Why nothing is posted to GitHub: No noise. Privacy. They expire.
