Merging 6 Go Packages into Termux
Description and use
The author merged six Go packages (goimports, golangci-lint, air, gotests, goreleaser, govulncheck) into the Termux repository. This enabled Termux users to install a complete Go development toolkit via pkg install. A key factor was responding quickly to reviewer requests, including rebasing against the new Go 1.27.0 release.
Problem
Termux lacked a comprehensive set of essential Go development tools, requiring manual installation or missing functionality for mobile Go development.
Outcome
Successfully merged six Go development tools into Termux, enabling users to install a full Go toolkit via pkg install. The process involved batching PRs and quickly rebasing to match a new Go compiler release.
Workflow
- Identify missing Go tools needed for a complete development environment.
- Create separate pull requests for each package (goimports, golangci-lint, air, gotests, goreleaser, govulncheck).
- Submit PRs to termux/termux-packages.
- Respond to maintainer feedback, including rebasing branches to compile against the latest Go version (Go 1.27.0).
- Force-push rebased branches.
- Wait for review and merge.
- Verify installation using
pkg showandpkg install.
