NodeJS OpenAI-Compatible Audio Transcriptions: 503 Fallbacks Across 3 Providers

Описание и применение

Руководство по обработке ошибок 503/504 при работе с OpenAI‑совместимыми сервисами транскрипции аудио, включая проверку доступности модели, ограниченные повторные попытки и переключение на резервный провайдер.

Задача

Handling 503/504 errors from OpenAI-compatible audio transcription endpoints while ensuring reliable transcription for an edtech invoice pipeline.

Результат

By validating model availability before sending audio and bounding 503/504 retries, the system avoids unnecessary load on unavailable backends and ensures consistent transcript output for downstream invoice extraction.

Рабочий процесс

  • 1. Query /v1/models to check if the target ASR model is available. 2. If unavailable, raise an error and trigger a configured fallback provider. 3. If available, send a multipart/form‑data request to /v1/audio/transcriptions. 4. On receiving a 503/504, retry with exponential backoff up to a bounded limit. 5. If retries exhaust, fail over to the fallback provider. 6. Return the transcript and confidence metadata in a consistent format to the invoice parser.

Доказательства

Check /v1/models first, send valid multipart audio only when the ASR model is available: true, and route to a specialist fallback after bounded 503/504 retries when the catalog says available: false.

Источник

A 503 from /v1/audio/transcriptions is not proof that the file is malformed. It can mean the route exists while its ASR compute is disabled.

Источник

The invariant is more important than the vendor: an unavailable model must never receive an audio payload, a 503/504 retry must be bounded, and the downstream invoice parser must see the same application-level transcript object.
