PausePoint: A Local Gemma Resume Capsule for Interrupted Developers

Description and use

PausePoint lets developers pause work with a concise, locally stored capsule that includes verified facts, uncertainties, next steps, and an optional read‑only Git snapshot, reducing restart cost without sending data to external services.

Problem

Developers lose time when switching tasks, needing to remember where they left off.

Outcome

PausePoint enables developers to pause work with a concise, locally stored capsule that includes a prompt for resuming, optionally enriched with a read‑only Git snapshot, reducing restart cost without sending data to external services.

Workflow

  • 1. User enters rough notes (goal, stop point, changes, verified items, uncertainties, blockers).
  • 2. PausePoint generates a capsule via Gemma 3 1B through Ollama, applying deterministic guardrails to prioritize user input.
  • 3. Optionally attach a local Git snapshot (root, branch, status, diff, recent commits) using read‑only commands.
  • 4. Capsule is saved to browser local storage; can be reopened, exported as Markdown or JSON.
  • 5. When returning, user pastes the prompt into a coding agent or resumes directly from the capsule.

Evidence

PausePoint asks for a few rough notes: the goal, where I stopped, what changed, what's verified, what's still uncertain, and any blocker.

Source

It can also attach a local Git snapshot. The user selects a repository folder, and the local server captures the root, current branch, short status, diff summary, and recent commits using fixed read-only Git commands.

Source

Saved capsules stay in the current browser's local storage. They can be reopened from history, exported as Markdown, or backed up as JSON.

Source

During my first real Gemma smoke test, the model over-weighted an unrelated filename and commit subjects from the Git snapshot. I added deterministic post-processing so the user's goal and stopping point take priority.

Source

If Ollama or the model isn't available, the UI says TEMPLATE MODE; it doesn't pretend fallback content came from AI.
