Sleepy Coder: a local assistant that finds the boring fixes in your code
Description and use
Sleepy Coder is a local assistant that scans repositories for trivial code issues, shows exact locations, provides AI-generated fix instructions, and verifies fixes with a single click, all without sending code to the cloud.
Problem
Developers struggle to remember and locate small, repetitive code issues such as duplicate headings, missing alt text, console logs, and TODO comments in side projects.
Outcome
Sleepy Coder automatically identifies trivial code issues, provides precise locations and AI-generated fix instructions, and verifies fixes with a single click, enabling developers to clean up projects efficiently without altering files automatically.
Workflow
- Point the tool at a folder on the local machine
- Run the "Find tasks" command to execute rule-based scans
- Review the list of tasks with file/line info and AI-generated fix guides
- Open the file in VS Code via the provided button
- Apply the suggested changes manually
- Click "I fixed it — check again" to re-run the rule and confirm the issue is resolved
- Move the task to "Done" once verified
Evidence
Sleepy Coder is a local coding assistant that looks through your repositories for small boring problems — a duplicate <code><h1></code>, an image without <code>alt</code>, a forgotten <code>console.log</code>, a TODO you never got back to — and shows you exactly where each one is and how to fix it.
It runs on your machine with a local model through Ollama No cloud, no paid APIs, and it never changes your files: you make the fix, Sleepy Coder checks it.
My first plan was the "sleepy" dream: approve a task, and an agent makes the change on its own Git branch while you rest.
I changed the design to match that: rules find the line, Gemma explains, I edit, the rule checks.
On my CSS backgrounds gallery it found a duplicate <code><h1></code> I didn’t know about, told me which file to change and which one to keep, and confirmed the fix with one click.
