Snooze Desk: a local Gemma reads my GitHub notifications while I sleep
Description and use
An overnight workflow using a local Gemma model and Temporal processes GitHub notifications, classifies them, drafts replies, and produces a concise morning digest, enabling quick morning action.
Problem
Developers feel guilty opening GitHub each morning and seeing many notifications, some of which require immediate attention while others can wait.
Outcome
The system processes notifications overnight, producing a concise digest and draft replies, reducing morning workload and ensuring timely responses while keeping all data local.
Workflow
- Run a durable Temporal workflow overnight
- Fetch GitHub notifications via Octokit
- Send each notification to a local Gemma model in Ollama for classification
- Return strict JSON with labels needs-you, can-wait, ignore
- Draft replies for needs-you items
- Generate a 3‑line morning digest
- Store drafts and digests in a local dashboard
- Allow user actions (approve, edit, snooze, reject) via UI
- Snoozed items trigger a Temporal timer and re‑appear when it fires
Evidence
A durable Temporal workflow pulls my GitHub notifications.
A local Gemma model running in Ollama sorts each one into needs-you, can-wait or ignore.
It writes a short morning digest, so the first thing I read is three lines, not forty tabs.
Snoozing starts a Temporal durable timer with a live countdown, and the item comes back when the timer fires.
