Track competitor Shopify prices and restocks daily with Python (and only get the changes)
Description and use
Automated daily monitoring of competitor Shopify stores, outputting only changed price, sale or stock rows to a CSV log.
Problem
Online sellers need to monitor competitor Shopify stores for price drops, new sale prices, new products and restocks without being rate‑limited.
Outcome
Daily logs contain only rows that are new or have changed price, sale price or stock, enabling efficient monitoring of competitor Shopify stores.
Workflow
- Append /products.json to target stores to fetch catalogue
- Use Apify actor Shopify Store Products & Price Tracker with onlyChanges:true
- Configure actor input: list of stores, outputPerVariant:true, onlyAvailable:false, includeDescription:false
- Save actor input as a task and schedule it daily (e.g., 07:00)
- On first run, all rows marked new; subsequent runs emit only changed rows
- Pull latest run via apify_client and append to a CSV log
- Use CSV for analysis or charting
Evidence
Append /products.json to most Shopify storefronts and you get the catalogue: titles, vendors, tags, every variant with SKU, price, compare-at (original) price and availability.
Its onlyChanges mode remembers the previous run for each store and outputs only rows that are new or whose price, sale price or stock changed, tagging each with change: "new" or "updated".
Set the input up once in Apify Console with onlyChanges: true, save it as a task, and add a Schedule (say 07:00 daily).
