Where OpenCode Fits in My Cursor Workflow—and Where It Does Not
Description and use
OpenCode reduces context switching and keystrokes for repository exploration and small changes, improving ergonomics, but does not replace Cursor for visual UI editing.
Problem
Frequent context switching between terminal and editor during repository exploration and small multi-file changes.
Outcome
OpenCode reduces context switching and keystrokes for backend-heavy web tasks, improving ergonomics without replacing Cursor for visual UI editing.
Workflow
- Start OpenCode in the project directory using
cd my-web-app opencode - Configure model and provider in a minimal
config.json - Use OpenCode to explore the repo, generate dependency maps, or apply small changes
- Review the generated diff in Git
- Open Cursor for visual editing and interactive refinement
- Run the project’s normal checks
Evidence
I keep the terminal open next to Cursor and use OpenCode for repository exploration, small multi-file changes, and test-driven fixes.
The workflow becomes: 1) Explore and plan in OpenCode. 2) Review the diff in Git. 3) Open Cursor for visual editing and interactive refinement. 4) Run the project’s normal checks.
