Why I Left Termius and Built My Own Android SSH Client
Description and use
Jeansh is an Android SSH client that keeps background sessions alive, notifies when AI agents finish, and renders Markdown/mermaid output, addressing battery and UI issues of Termius.
Problem
Need a lightweight, battery‑friendly Android SSH client that keeps background sessions alive, notifies when AI agents finish, and renders Markdown/mermaid output on touch screens.
Outcome
Jeansh enabled the engineer to monitor AI agents from a phone/tablet without draining battery, receive real‑time notifications, and comfortably read Markdown/mermaid output, improving remote work efficiency.
Workflow
- 1. Install Jeansh on phone/tablet
- 2. Add host credentials (keystore encrypted)
- 3. Connect via SSH; app opens tmux session
- 4. Monitor AI agent output in terminal pane
- 5. Receive notification when agent finishes
- 6. Open file tree to review generated Markdown/mermaid
- 7. Use chat mode to interact with Claude Code
- 8. Run database queries directly over SSH
Evidence
The connection had to stay alive. To know how the agent was doing, the SSH session had to stay connected in the background, and it drained my phone's battery.
Read what the agent wrote. A VS Code-style file tree, an editor with syntax highlighting, and Markdown rendered complete with images and Mermaid diagrams, in a tab beside the shell.
