Your Agent Forgets When the Context Window Compacts. Ours Doesn't, By Design.
Description and use
Agents forget when the context window compacts. HyperMarrow writes decisions with source and timestamp, enforces write‑ahead before compaction, bounds forgetting, and returns exact records with provenance, eliminating amnesia and preserving durable memory.
Problem
Agents lose memory when the context window compacts, leading to amnesiac behavior and loss of provenance.
Outcome
Agents retain decisions with source, timestamp, and editability; compaction no longer erases memory, enabling cross‑session continuity and durable storage beyond tool lifetimes.
Workflow
- 1. Record a decision with source and timestamp to durable local storage.
- 2. Enforce write‑ahead rule: wait for durable write before any compaction.
- 3. When compaction occurs, it operates on the durable store, not on transient context.
- 4. On recall, retrieve the exact stored record with provenance instead of a paraphrased summary.
- 5. Apply bounded forgetting schedule and allow pinning to prevent decay.
- 6. Configure privacy boundary as a setting to control whether records may leave the machine.
Evidence
Memory that lives only inside the context window is amnesiac by construction.
Decisions are written down with a source and a timestamp.
Write before you compact – Nothing is allowed to summarise or drop the working context until the durable copy exists and has been acknowledged.
Recall pulls the stored record rather than a paraphrase of it, and it hands you the hit together with where the hit came from.
The memory outlives the tool. The store is plain local files, so it survives an agent swap, a version bump or a vendor going away.
